STEMS EXPLAINED

Every individual sound occupying its owns track counts as one single stem. Whenever possible best mix results can be achieved by having every different sound situated on a separate track, this allows individual processing and adjustments of each sound.  For instance in a Electronic track the drums and percussion alone can commonly account for 10 to 20 stems, ie Kick 1, Sub Kick, Snare, Clap, Rim, shaker, hi hat 1, hi hat 2 etc…

MIXING IN AN ABLETON LIVE PROJECT SERVICE | SELECTED THIRD PARTY PLUGINS

Not only will you receive a professionally mixed song, but you will also have the project file to examine how it was done and all the effects used. From this you can learn and understand all the processes involved in the mix and work towards being able to mix your own tracks.

You can select for Ableton live native effects to be used exclusively to avoid compatibility issues or choose from selected these third party plugins, note that any plugins used that you don’t own will not work when you open the returned project on your computer.

Any of the following plugins listed at the bottom can be selected to be used in conjunction with Ableton native effects for the ‘Mixing in an Ableton Live Project’ service.

How is this relevant?  Let’s say you own Ableton Live Standard and you also own the Wave Complete 12 bundle, you can request that the mix be done exclusively with Ableton FX and those from Waves 12 bundle.

Why would you choose this option?  The benefit to limiting use to certain plugins that you also own is that after the mix is complete you can receive back the Ableton project folder and when you open it all the plugins will also work on your computer.  You can now investigate the mix and see all the processes involved, if you don’t own certain plugins they will appear greyed out and be non functioning.

Is the Mixing in an Ableton Live Project actually what I want?  This service is designed for those whose priority is to be able to learn and study the mix of their track after it is complete.  If the priority is for the best plugins on the market to be used for your mix, then the standard mixing service is probably the better choice.   If you are happy for Ableton FX to be used exclusively or you also happen to own some of the third party plugins listed below and you want to look over the project afterwards to investigate it then this may be a good option for you.
